Whether you are entering into a new relationship, or dealing with the aftermath of a relationship breakdown, we can help ensure your rights are protected.
Family law issues can come up when you least expect them, and they tend to be coupled with stress and strong emotions. With any family law dispute, it is important to hire a lawyer you trust who will give you the personal attention you need. At Jackson LPC, we understand that your family law challenges are unique and pride ourselves in learning every important detail of your case. We use simple, straightforward language to explain to you what options you have for dealing with your particular situation, and advise you on the potential benefits, drawbacks, and expenses associated with each option. We then provide you with strong advocacy and support throughout the process.
We can help you with a wide variety of family law issues
Separation & Divorce
Whether you and your former partner were married or living common law, we have the ability to help you with your separation. Regardless of your relationship status, you will have to address custody, support payments, and property division. If you are legally married to your partner, you may wish to obtain a divorce order. We can help you with all this and more.
Child Custody, Access & Parenting
One of the most contentious areas of family law is determining how your children will be cared for. We are sensitive to the fact that every family is unique and every child has different needs. We will work with you to ensure that we can protect the interests of your children.
Child & Spousal Support Payments
Depending on your family law situation, you may be either entitled to or be required to pay child and/or spousal support. We can help you determine what types of support payments apply to your situation and how to best ensure they are paid in full and on time. If your former partner is behind in his or her payments, we can help you make sure you get what you are owed. If you are required to pay support payments, we ensure that you are not paying more than you are required to.
We can deal with the division of all types of family property, including the matrimonial home, jointly owned assets, and personal property. We can help you understand how the law requires your assets be divided and help you obtain a fair financial settlement. We can also address disputes over specific forms of property, such as pets and sentimental items.
For couples who are just starting out together, we offer both Cohabitation Agreements and Marriage Contracts (commonly referred to as Pre-Nuptial Agreements). For separating and divorcing couples, we offer Separation Agreements. We can also draft domestic contracts for parents who never lived together, but need to address custody, access and child support.
Alternative Dispute Resolution
Most people these days prefer to solve their family law issues without ever entering a court room. A wide range of dispute resolution options are available, including negotiation, mediation, and arbitration. If both you and your former partner are willing to compromise and come to a fair agreement, these options are are typically much faster and less expensive than going to family court.
A small percentage of family law issues will require court intervention in order to be resolved. While we encourage our clients to use less expensive and more expeditious dispute resolution techniques, we also provide representation in court when necessary. When in court, we ensure that the judge is fully informed of all the important facts of your case and work to guide the judge to a fair final order.
Limited Scope Representation
Sometimes, hiring a lawyer to represent you for the entirety of your family law case is financially out of reach. However, you still may wish to be provided with legal advice or have the assistance of a lawyer when preparing your documents. For these situations, we offer unbundled services to help you ensure you have the legal help you need without the expense of full representation.
